Q. Is aloe vera better for my hair?
A.
Yes, aloe vera is a much better moisturizer than just water. Aloe vera is composed of water, enzymes, vitamins, proteins, minerals, amino acids as well as other nutrients. Among the other key constituents are a combination of so called polysaccharides. Many natural sugar-like molecules that together form very long and large molecules. It is these molecules that give Aloe Vera Gel its gelatinous characteristic. These molecules can hold water molecules together and that is one of the reasons that Aloe Vera is such a good moisturizer. Indians, Native Americans and Caribbeans have used Aloe Vera to promote healthy hair and prevent hair loss for many years.

Q. Do your products contain alcohol?
A.
Our products contain only Cetearyl alcohol which is a fatty alcohols used as emollient, emulsifier, thickener and carrying agent for other ingredients. It can be derived naturally (coconut fatty alcohol) or synthetically, we use one derived naturally. It is not an irritant and are not related to SD alcohol, isopropyl alcohol,or ethyl alcohols which are drying alcohols.

Q. I keep hearing about Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate what is it and do your products contain it?
A.
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate is a surfactant (foaming agent) and no our shampoos do not contain this ingredient.
Examples of surfactants that you might find on the ingredient list of your favorite shampoo are:

  •  Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate - very harsh

  • Ammonium Laureth Sulfate- harsh

  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) - still rather harsh

  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) - mild, great choice

  •  TEA Lauryl Sulfate & TEA Laureth Sulfate- both are good choices

If you are looking to have healthy hair the first step is to start reading the ingredients in the products that you put on your hair.

Q. Are any of your products petroleum based?
A.
No, all of our products are aloe vera based.

Q. Do you feel that diet and supplements are necessary for hair growth? If yes, what supplements do you recommend?
A.
A healthy diet is vital for strong, healthy hair. A well balance diet with foods rich in zinc and iron, both are essential to hair growth. The addition of vitamin supplements might be required. I recommend a daily supplement with Iron, Zinc and B-Complex. We recommend daily supplements mainly because our diets are usually deficient. Secondly, the hemoglobin levels are slightly lower in African-American populations (0.5 to 1.0 gm/dl lower) than in Caucasian populations. Iron-deficiency anemia is more of a problem for Black women because we are more likely to have fibroids, benign tumors that can cause heavy periods. A woman with fibroids may have blood clots and periods that last seven to ten days or longer, which result in chronic blood loss. This a serious condition where the ability of the blood to carry oxygen around the body, is reduced. However, I recommend that you seek the advice of your physician before adding a supplement.

Q. Are your products for African-American hair only?

Q. My doctor started me on a new medication and now my hair is falling out, could it be the medication?
A.
Any change in your body's chemistry could potentially lead to hair loss. The loss usually begins around 2 to 3 months after a shock to the system from severe stress, high fever, surgery, child birth or menopause; or from a medical or nutritional problem like a vitamin or mineral deficiency, hypothyroidism, or chemotherapy. Even starting or stopping some medications can cause your hair to fall out. Be sure to talk to your doctor about the hair loss problem.

Q. How often do I need to wash my hair when using the MVP Formula shampoo?
A.
Use the MVP shampoo the same as any other shampoo.

Q. I am a regular swimmer and have a problem with breakage and dry hair. Do you have any products to help with these problems?
A.
Yes, we offer the Pre-Swim Conditioner.

Q. I do a lot of swimming, and every summer my hair falls out. What can I do to minimize the damage?
A.
If your hair is natural or relaxed you should rinse then wash your hair immediately after swimming, followed with a deep conditioner, and a leave in conditioner or moisturizer. Try applying a Pre-Swim Conditioner, such as Nature’s Prescription Pre-Swim and wear a swimming cap when you swim. Whether natural or relaxed, what's important is that you wash, condition, moisturize and protect your hair.

Q. My hair is very dry, what product do you recommend?
A.
I recommend the M.I.S.T. (Moisture Infusion Steam Therapy), it is a one of a kind daily moisture replenisher.

Q. Why do I see things I can't even pronounce on "natural" product ingredients?
A.
Don't be put off by a product just because you see things like the following on the ingredient label. The FDA requires that cosmetic manufacturers use scientific names for some very common (and very beneficial) ingredients.  Examples are:  Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Sodium Chloride (Salt),  Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D).

Q. Are your products ALL natural?
A.
No, any hair care product sitting on shelves must have preservatives and anti-bacterial agents to prevent molds, mildews, and bacterial growth. The aloe vera base is the natural difference in our products.

Q. Why is aloe vera better than water based products?
A.
The leaf of an aloe vera plant is commonly referred to as a storehouse for enzymes, vitamins, proteins, and minerals. Probably because aloe vera provides 20 of the 22 amino acids that the human body requires, which are the building blocks of proteins. Aloe vera also contains magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, chromium, calcium, sodium, potassium and the important anti-oxidant selenium. Keratin, the primary protein of hair, consists of amino acids, oxygen, carbon, & small amounts of hydrogen, nitrogen, & sulphur. Aloe vera has a chemical make-up similar to that of keratin, & it rejuvenates the hair with its own nutrients, giving it more elasticity & preventing breakage. Water is just water or moisture.

A.
Your hair grows on an average of 1/2 inch per month or 6 inches a year. The key is to keep your hair from breaking.

Q. How often should I moisturize my hair?
A.
Use a moisturizer on your hair at least once a day or anytime that your hair appears dry. Following a perm or any chemical treatment I recommend that you moisturize at least twice a day for a week to 10 days. The main thing African American hair lacks is moisture. Chemically treated hair also lacks moisture. The sun’s UV rays, the wind, curling irons, blow dryers, etc. all deplete our hair of moisture. If you live in an extremely hot, cold or windy climate always moisturize, moisturize and moisturize. Remember that moisture deprived hair will break.
